At Couples and Kids Social Initiatives (CKSI), we believe that the family unit is the bedrock of a thriving society. When a child is diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), it doesn't just affect one person—it impacts the entire family dynamic.
More Than Just Medical Care
While medical treatment is crucial, the emotional and financial strain on parents can be overwhelming. Our mission goes beyond the hospital walls. We focus on:
Support Groups: Creating safe spaces where mothers and fathers can share their experiences without stigma.
Genetic Counseling: Helping couples make informed decisions before starting a family.
Educational Workshops: Teaching communities that SCD is not a curse, but a manageable condition.
"Empowering a family means empowering the future of Nigeria."
A Story of Hope
Last month in Lagos, we met the Adebayo family. Their 5-year-old son, Tolu, had been missing school due to frequent crises. Through our outreach program, we connected them with a specialist and provided a micro-grant for his medication. Today, Tolu is back in class, and his parents are active advocates in their local community.
This is why we do what we do. Together, we can break the cycle of pain and build a future of hope.
